Why I Bullet Journal

introduction

A lot of people struggle with organising their life. Different work or university deadlines, events, tasks, and even simple note-taking. What method do i use to organise my life? Bullet Journaling has revolutionised how i organise my studies. Without it i'd be completely lost on what to study, and when to start what. It is an incredible tool, and i cannot express enough how useful it is to me.

Bullet journaling is a customisable organisation system that uses a notebook to track past events, organize present tasks, and plan for future activities, all through a mix of rapid logging, symbols, and personalized layouts.

Why Bullet Journal?

I'd like to recommend Bullet Journaling to anyone that is reading this. Whether you are a student, an academic, scientist, an artist, or a businessman. The beauty of Bullet Journaling is that it is as simple (or as complex) as you want it to be. Your BuJo can range from a simple daily log in Google Keep/Obsidian, to a beautifully expressive, artistic sketchbook.
Despite the portability and convenience of a digital planner, i'd still recommend an analogue notebook. Maybe it is just me but there is something freeing and relaxing about being able to write your notes on paper, with a fountain pen. Physically writing and crossing out finished tasks motivates me to complete more, keeping me productive. Journaling allows me to sit down, free of distractions, and jot down anything i want to remember.

My Way of Journaling

There is no wrong way to Bullet Journal; everyone finds their own methods. Here is what works for me, which may give you some ideas, and remind me how important these methods are.

A traditional BuJo has three fundamental collections. The Future Log, Monthly Log, and Daily Log. My method is exactly the same, but with 3 changes:

  1. The Future Log spans the whole year, not six months.
  2. The Monthly Log is split into four weekly logs, with date-specific tasks on the left, and rolling tasks on the right.
  3. Followed by the Weekly Log is a monthly tracker, which tracks at the maximum six habits. I split the monthly into four weeklies because I often run out of space in the monthly layout, for both date-specific and rolling tasks.
If you are new to Bullet Journaling, this might not be the best method to start with. Build the habit first, then adjust layouts as needed.
After the tracker there are the Daily Logs, interspersed with collections. Most of the journal is the Daily Log. I used to index Daily Logs in the Index before, but stopped due to the massive amount of bloat that made the index practically useless.

Should You Bullet Journal?

Yes! You will be free from the bloat of Google Calendar and its constat interruptions and distractions. When you open your journal, there is nothing but the pen in your hand and the paper in front of you. It lets you focus on exactly what you need to do. If you've never had a journal, now is the time to start.

Conclusion

Bullet Journaling will transform and optimise how you organise your day-to-day life. It offers a distraction-free, mindful, and personalised system. Whether you choose digital or analogue, find what works best for you and start journaling today. Happy Bullet Journaling!
